To clarify the roles of the four partners within the community, here is the following information.
The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce operates independently as a non-profit membership organization, distinct from the city, El Dorado Inc., Main Street, and Experience El Dorado. Our membership comprises businesses in El Dorado and nearby areas. We provide support to these businesses in the following ways:
Our Mission is to develop and enhance the economic vitality of businesses through community leadership, education, advocacy, and relationship development. Members' annual investments in the Chamber play a crucial role in realizing and expanding these capabilities aligned with our mission.
Collaboratively, our Ambassador Committee, the Celebration of Freedom Committee, and Fuel El Dorado (our Young Professional group) contribute significantly to achieving our mission. Additionally, numerous events organized throughout the year are instrumental in furthering our goals. The Chamber operates under the guidance of our Board of Directors, responsible for governance, while our dedicated staff manages the day-to-day operations.
The City of El Dorado, along with Experience El Dorado (formerly the CVB), are both members of the Chamber. Experience El Dorado oversees events like Gold Fest and the summer Farmers Markets. Collaboration between the Chamber and Experience El Dorado occurs for certain annual events, ensuring our resources are coordinated and efforts aren't duplicated.
Main Street is a separate, non-profit organization, which has its own Board of Directors. Its primary focus revolves around strengthening downtown identity, preserving heritage, and fostering economic stability within the downtown district. Funding for Main Street is derived partially from the city and supplemented by contributions from businesses within the downtown area. Additionally, Main Street oversees initiatives such as the Banner Program on the light poles.
El Dorado, Inc., also referred to as Develop El Dorado, operates as a public/private partnership in collaboration with the City of El Dorado. Its core role involves recruiting and supporting both new and established businesses, contributing to job creation, and fostering a robust tax base for the community. Functioning as a membership organization, El Dorado, Inc. is overseen by a Board of Directors comprising local business leaders, representatives from financial institutions, utility entities, and appointees designated by the City of El Dorado Commission.
Hopefully, this offers a clearer understanding of the functions of these four separate organizations.
